FAQ > About Web-to-Print > What are the limitations or challenges with Web-to-Print?
Bringing the technology "down market" to smaller accounts and "sideways" to custom jobs. There are successful printers who've been doing Web-to-Print for years... but only have 10-20% of their business coming in that way.
Looking at it this way, Web-to-Print hasn't even arrived yet for 85% of their business. There has been no improvement at all in the way the majority of their business is transacted. It's just as manual and innefficient as it was before the web-to-print myth hit the industry. PressWise was designed to change that.
Traditionally, small customers just didn't bring enough business to justify the deployment costs of building a web-to-print portal for them. And custom jobs didn't fit the web-to-print model because they were so "catalog based"... why would you take time to build an online product and deploy it only to have it ordered one time? PressWise is a paradigm shift that eliminates both of these issues.
Another challenge is that past products in the marketplace dramatically over-hyped what could be achieved with web-to-print, and then fell short. Like the faux buildings at Disneyland, web-to-print systems were only skin deep "order capture" tools... leaving the printer to struggle with manual fulfillment of work on the backend, and redundant data entry for each transaction. PressWise changes this as well.
